Cincinnati Police Capt. Danita Pettis was fired Wednesday. Pettis' attorney called the firing ongoing "retaliation" and "discrimination."

A captain at the Cincinnati Police Department was fired Wednesday, the department confirms to FOX19 NOW. Danita Pettis, 54, worked for the department for more than 25 years and was the highest-ranking African American female within CPD.

A Cincinnati officer was hit in her vehicle while on I-75, sustaining minor injuries, and was later released from the hospital.

After 33 years with the Cincinnati Police Department, Donna Robinson is set to become Cincinnati State's police chief.

Robinson is the first Black woman to become a police chief locally, according to Cincinnati State’s announcement. “For an African American woman to be named chief is a special thing,” Chief of Police and Director of Public Safety for the University of Cincinnati, Elliot Isaac said.
