CAPE TOWN, South Africa (AP) — The United States has sent five men to the small African nation of Eswatini in an expansion of the Trump administration’s largely secretive third-country deportation program, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said Tuesday.

Eswatini, formerly known as Swaziland, is the only nation in Africa where the monarch retains full executive power

The United States has deported five individuals from Vietnam, Jamaica, Cuba, Yemen and Laos to Eswatini, a small southern African nation governed by a king who still holds absolute power.

The Kingdom of Eswatini has joined a growing list of African nations that have agreed to accept deportees from the US.

On July 4, the U.S. deported eight migrants to another African country, South Sudan, after holding them for weeks in a converted shipping container at a military base in Djibouti. The men had initially boarded a flight in May, which was later diverted, The Guardian reported.
