As negotiators inch toward a cease-fire deal, the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon has intensified.

Israel's military has once again bombed buildings near the Lebanese capital Beirut, with a dpa reporter counting at least eight loud explosions. The airstrikes followed several evacuation calls by the Israeli military to residents of the suburbs known as Dahieh.

The U.N. Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 1701 in August 2006 as part of a cease-fire that ended Israel’s last war with Lebanon. The resolution sought to create a buffer zone in southern Lebanon to prevent fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, but has failed to keep the peace.

Police said there were multiple impact sites in the area of Petah Tikvah, on the eastern side of Tel Aviv, and that several people had minor injuries.

Lebanon’s capital city is returning to a cycle of violence and destruction just as it was beginning to stabilize after years of chaos.
