New York Attorney General Letitia James secured a $4.8 million refund for consumers who were wrongly charged by SmileDirectClub after it went bankrupt.

New York Attorney General Letitia James has announced that her office recovered $4.8 million to distribute nationwide to more than 28,000 consumers. SmileDirectClub illegally charged those customers after it ceased operations, James said.

SmileDirectClub was once a household name that flooded the airwaves and social media with advertisements. The teeth-straightening company has left existing customers in financial limbo since shutting down last December,
