US President Donald Trump’s announcement that Ukraine will receive Patriot missile systems as part of a new package of US weaponry has been warmly welcomed in Kyiv as it reels under nightly Russian bombardments.

RTX said the Patriot has been proven many times in combat and that a new radar—the so-called Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor—will give the system 360-degree coverage. The new radar is being tested and will be fielded in operational units in fiscal year 2029, according to a U.S. Army spokesman.

President Trump set a 50 day deadline for a cease fire in Ukraine, but Russia is still stepping up its attacks across the country. Reporter Alex Hogan says American air defense systems are now on the way to Ukraine's biggest cities.
