When state troopers Joseph Perechinsky and William Jenkins were tasked Thursday morning with checking on a call of shots fired at a home in rural northeastern Pennsylvania, they had no idea about the danger they were driving toward.

A state police spokesperson, Trooper Logan T. Brouse, said the location was along Route 171 near the village of Thomson.

Two Pennsylvania police officers have been shot in the northeast part of the state, Governor Josh Shapiro said. The troopers were shot were responding to a call and both were transported to local hospitals, state police told the BBC.
