According to the cause list of November 29 uploaded on the apex court website, a bench headed by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna is scheduled to hear the plea filed by the Committee of Management, Shahi Jama Masjid, Sambhal. The plea has sought an ex-parte stay on the operation of the November 19 order passed by the civil judge.

The petition contends that the survey at Sambhals Jama Masjid, ordered by a civil judge, was conducted hastily and could lead to communal tensions, jeopardizing the secular fabric of the country.

The Sambhal Jama Masjid Committee has approached the Supreme Court challenging the order passed by a trial court for the commission survey of the mosque in a suit which alleged that it was built after destroying a temple. A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar will hear the matter tomorrow.
