The Augusta County Department of Emergency Management is launching its new mass emergency notification system, “Augusta Alerts,” replacing its current system, “CodeRed.”

Also on the Board of Supervisors, Stephen Grepps won the Beverley Manor seat while Gerald Garber remains on the board in the Middle River District. Both were unopposed on the ballot, but Grepps did face a write-in campaign. Still, Grepps has 3,098 votes, 93.74% of the total.

One person is dead after a fatal crash on Tinkling Spring Road in Augusta County this afternoon. Virginia State Police report the driver of a BMW died at the scene at approximately 12:26 p.m. today. The name of the deceased individual has not been released.

It looks like Augusta County is going to experience some frosty temperatures. The National Weather Service issued a freeze watch in effect late evening Thursday through Friday morning, Oct. 10. It's the first freeze watch of the season for the area.
