Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack has extensive ties to Nix, as Wommack’s father, Dave Wommack, overlapped with Nix during their time at Southern Miss. Wommack told reporters before the Iron Bowl that he was glad Nix finally had the opportunity to call plays.
Alabama lost to Georgia in the SEC Championship Game 28-7 on Saturday, Dec. 6, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, handing the Crimson Tide its first loss in a conference title game since 2008.

Announced by the SEC on Wednesday, Alabama Crimson Tide offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor has been named the co-recipient of the 2025 Jacobs Blocking Trophy.
Leading the way for the Tide on the All-SEC first team is offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor, who was also named as a co-recipient of the SEC’s top blocker award Wednesday. Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson was also named to the Second Team All-SEC.
Future SEC players Zion Crumpton, CD Morgan, Corey Barber and EJ Crowell all had touchdowns as Alabama raced to a 40-10 victory at M.M. Roberts Stadium on the campus of Southern Mississippi.
