The air quality index in Delhi continued to swing between the "severe" and "very poor" levels. The city's 24-hour average air quality index, recorded until 4 pm on Sunday, was 318 (very poor), improving from the severe category recorded the previous day when it was 412,

The Centre's Decision Support System (DSS) for Air Quality Management estimated that vehicular emissions contributed 18.1 per cent to Delhi's pollution on Sunday. Stubble burning, another major factor, accounted for 19 per cent of Delhi's pollution on Saturday.

India's capital city of Delhi has virtually shut down as air pollution hit "severe plus" levels, according to Indian government officials in its pollution control authority.

Experts said even though winds were predominantly calm on Saturday, they picked up late in the evening, with similarly strong winds recorded on Sunday.

Delhi's air quality index receded to the poor range on Sunday, aided by consistent winds and less moisture, after a Saturday with a sever AQI score.The air quality index (AQI) was 348 at 11am, fell to 323 by 3pm and was 308 by 6pm.

Delhi's air quality showed slight improvement on Sunday, moving from "severe" to "very poor" with an AQI of 318. This improvement follows a week of hazardous air quality, peaking at 495 last Monday. Vehicular emissions and stubble burning were identified as major contributors to the pollution.

On Sunday, as per the 4 pm bulletin by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 318 in the lower end of the ‘very poor’ category. At 6 am, the air quality was 370.
