ATLANTA (AP) — A suspected gunman and a police officer are dead after law enforcement responded to reports of an active shooter near the adjoining campuses of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Emory University on Friday, authorities said.

The Atlanta Police Department said an active shooter near Emory University is dead and one officer was killed in the incident.

Authorities are investigating what led a gunman to open fire at the entrance to the CDC headquarters in Atlanta and kill a police officer. CBS News' Cristian Benavides reports.
