As part of Gov. Jeff Landry’s tax reform plan, lawmakers are considering updating the state’s sales tax collection to include digital goods and services. It is part of a broader plan to expand the base of the sales tax to pay off the lost revenue of an income tax cut.

Louisiana lawmakers are considering a bill that would expand the state’s tax base to include about 50 more services.

Louisiana consumers may have to start paying sales tax on 40 new services. The change is part of a proposal to broaden the sales tax base that state lawmakers are likely to consider this week.

It’s kind of like a tax swap–if you want to call it that, although it’s not exactly an even one,” Barry Erwin, president and CEO of the Council for a Better Louisiana said.
