An East Bay community is still feeling the effects from a weekend fire at the Martinez Refining Company that emitted huge plumes of smoke and injured six refinery employees​.

Refinery personnel managed to close valves and largely shut down the sources of the fire by 9:57 p.m., and firefighters successfully contained the flames by 12:15 a.m., according to the Martinez

More than 24 hours a large fire broke out at the Martinez Refining Company, Contra Costa health officials continue to urge nearby residents with respiratory sensitivity to stay indoors if possible, as concerns about air quality persist.

Contra Costa Health Sunday recommended that residents of Martinez, parts of Pacheco and Clyde who have respiratory sensitivity remain indoors with doors and windows closed while smoke continues to clear from Saturday’s fire at the Martinez Refining Company.
