Nighttime water rescue teams have been deployed in areas impacted by heavy rainfall as a powerful storm races across the eastern US early Sunday –– with the potential for life-threatening flooding and dangerous tornadoes.

The Richland Fire Department had to conduct water rescues after severe flooding in Eastern Kentucky. Kentucky is seeing the effects of heavy rain and storms that rolled in early Saturday morning. Some counties in the southern part of the state have seen over three inches of rain since midnight,

StormTeam 5 said that much of the snow that fell could get washed away on Sunday as that transition to rain continues.

There is a high ceiling for how much snow the storm could generate, but it could also just produce a glancing blow or even head out to sea with little impact.

More snow is on the way after Iowa was hit by a winter storm that brought up to 11 inches of accumulation in some areas of the state.

After a winter storm Saturday night, snow, freezing rain and high winds continue to be weather hazards on Sunday.

A winter storm watch was issued by the National Weather Service on Friday at 3:03 p.m. EST valid from Saturday 7 p.m. EST until Sunday 7 p.m. EST for Livingston, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Wayne, Lenawee and Monroe counties.

Widespread snowfall began Saturday evening and is expected to go on overnight. Freezing rain and icy conditions are forecasted for Sunday morning.
