Saturday's Capital Pride parade marked the 50th anniversary of the event as thousands gathered in Washington, during an extended WorldPride LGBTQ celebration. The six-hour parade is part of a weekend that also included the WorldPride Music Fest and other events.

The violence followed days of back-and-forth between the Metropolitan Police Department and government officials as to whether to close the historic park.

In a reversal of decisions just hours before the WorldPride parade, the fencing around Dupont Circle Park has been removed.
