Newark Mayor Ras Baraka condemned U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions on Friday following a raid conducted “without a warrant” at Ocean Seafood Depot in Newark’s Ironbound section.

Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka issued a statement late Thursday afternoon denouncing the raid as an “egregious act” conducted without a warrant and in violation of the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees “the right of the people be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures.”

A source with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement tells FOX 5 that Thursday's raid at a fish market in Newark was a routine operation the result of a tip, and not part of President Donald Trump's mass deportation plans.

The Newark raid came days after President Trump 2025 return to office. He has since signed executive orders allowing ICE raids at houses of worship.

Mayor Ras Baraka said he was "appalled" and "angry" and blasted ICE for also detaining U.S. citizens, including a veteran. ICE said citizens may be questioned during an investigation.
