Feb 2 (Reuters) - Across village hills to towering ski flying arenas in Slovenia, the name Prevc is spoken as if it belongs to the country’s sporting landscape itself, with ambition rising across the nation as the Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina draw closer.

For many decades, Olympic Games included "demonstration sports." Some, like curling, became part of the permanent roster. But others, like skijoring, didn't stick around.

The 2026 Winter Olympics is under way in Milano-Cortina and there are plenty of eye-catching sports on display. Among them is ski jumping, one of the traditional classics which has been part of the Games since its inception nearly a century ago.

Americans who top the podium at the Milan Cortina Games will be in line for a $37,500 bonus. Their competitors could collect as much as $800,000.
