The trial of Richard Allen for the Delphi murders resumed Wednesday with testimony from an eyewitness, a forensic pathologist and a police technician.

And that’s when Shank said she found a lead sheet in a file folder box labeled “Richard Allen Whiteman.” It was marked “cleared,” Shank said, but it was from a tip Allen sent in from Feb. 16, 2017, saying he was on the Monon High Bridge the day the girls went missing.

52-year-old Richard Allen is charged with the murders of 13-year-old Abby Williams and 14-year-old Libby German. Abby and Libby disappeared during a hike on Feb. 13, 2017, near the Monon High Bridge Trail in Delphi. Their bodies were discovered in the woods near that trail a day later.

Three witnesses who were on the Monon High Bridge trail the day Libby and Abby were killed, including one who said she was best friends with Libby's older sister, testified Tuesday that a man they saw on the trail is "Bridge Guy" — the primary suspect depicted in a grainy photo police later shared to aid their investigation.

Due to a labeling mix-up, a tip that defendant Richard Allen was seen on the Monon High Bridge on the day of the murders of Abigail Williams, 13, and Liberty "Libby" German, 14, in 2017, was not reviewed after September 2022.
