The heat wave in Southern California is expected to continue after inland communities experienced record temperatures. The KCAL News Weather Alert will continue through Friday evening as conditions will remain especially away from the coast.

A widespread and prolonged heat wave is expected to intensify fire concerns across California over the next few days, as temperatures rise and landscapes further dry out. Already, several fires are burning in Central and Southern California.

On Thursday, Indio experienced temperatures soaring to 119 degrees, breaking a record that had stood since 1929, according to the NWS.
