Mourners will gather in downtown Houston on Wednesday morning to honor fallen Houston firefighter Marcelo Garcia. Garcia, 42, died last week after being trapped underneath a collapsed wall while responding to a fire at a warehouse in Houston's East End.

Houston firefighter Marcelo Garcia has died after he and another first responder were injured while battling a warehouse blaze.

The funeral took place at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. ABC13 was at Fire Station 8, where the community paid its respects.

Hundreds of firefighters, family and community members gathered to remember fallen firefighter Marcelo "Ox" Garcia at his funeral Wednesday morning. Garcia was killed on Nov. 6 while battling a three-alarm warehouse fire in the Greater East End.

A public funeral service for Houston firefighter Marcelo “Ox" Garcia III starts at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, located at 111 St. Joseph Pkwy. in Houston. A separate, private viewing will be held for family and close friends.

The firefighter procession will depart at 8 a.m. from Fire Station 8 at 1818 Louisiana St. before making its way to the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart at 1111 St. Joseph Pkwy. The memorial service begins at 9 a.

Marcelo Garcia was a ten-year veteran of HFD and proudly served the East Houston community, where he grew up. He spent several years working out of Fire Station 23.
