Craig Melvin will be the new co-anchor of NBC ‘s Today show. The show announced the news Thursday morning.

Veteran NBC host and news anchor Craig Melvin has been tapped to replace Hoda Kotb as co-host of the 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. hours of “Today.”

After announcing Hoda Kotb would be stepping back from her role as co-anchor, the "Today" show is announcing Craig Melvin will step in.

Craig Melvin will replace Hoda Kotb as an anchor on “Today,” NBC’s morning show announced Thursday, keeping the personnel move in-house. Melvin was already the news anchor on “Today” and will begin working alongside Savannah Guthrie on Jan.

By selecting Mr. Melvin, a familiar face on the show, network executives chose to go the steadiest route possible.

Craig Melvin will become the new anchor of NBC’s Today, following the departure of Hoda Kotb in January. The announcement was made on this morning’s broadcast. Kotb’s final day on the show will be on Jan.

Craig Melvin, who has been with NBC News for nearly 14 years, is moving into the co-anchor seat alongside Savannah Guthrie for the 7 and 8 a.m. hours. He will begin Monday, Jan. 13, after Hoda says goodbye to her morning duties on Friday,
