Former Milwaukee Brewers closer Devin Williams has been removed from the same ninth-inning role by New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone. Boone announced the move prior to the game against Toronto April 27,

Set-up man Luke Weaver, who blossomed after moving into the closer role last fall in place of Clay Holmes, will “get a lot of” save opportunities moving forward, Boone said. The manager is also comfortable with using Weaver in a big spot earlier in the game, using other relievers in a save spot when necessary.
