The weather system is very likely to move nearly northwards, skirting Sri Lanka coast during next 12 hours, IMD said. The deep depression that caused significant disruption in Sri Lanka’s northeastern regions over the past few days has intensified into Cyclone Fengal, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully evacuated six stranded fishermen and four workers from the Chemplast jetty in Cuddalore, located about 2 km into the sea, amid worsening weather conditions.

The cyclone is predicted to intensify over the next 48 hours, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and a risk of flooding to the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh.

Cyclone Fengal may form from the Bay of Bengal's depression. IMD forecasts Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu to be more affected.
