A high-class potboiler from Alfonso Cuarón, the psychological thriller “Disclaimer” follows an elegant and respected documentary filmmaker in London, played by Cate Blanchett, whose life is turned upside down and inside out when she’s gifted a self-published novel that is a roman à clef about her.

Disclaimer” pulls the rug out from the audience before they’ve had the chance to get settled. There’s no building of empathy for its central character, Cate Blanchett’s Catherine Ravenscroft.
