Chelsea backed away from a potential deal for Marc Guehi in the January transfer window, allowing Manchester City to swoop in for the Crystal Palace and England defender in a deal worth an initial £20 million.

Marc Guehi is closing in on a move to Manchester City for £20 million, though he could have ended up at Chelsea this time last year. Enzo Maresca left his role as Chelsea manager in early January after a mutual agreement with the club.

Chelsea opted against re-signing their former defender Marc Guehi this month in order to focus on other defensive targets. Guehi sealed a move to Manchester City this week, leaving Crystal Palace where he had just six months left on his contract for a fee of £20million.
