Gallego won his Senate race in a battleground state that Donald Trump flipped and will become the first Latino to represent Arizona in the upper chamber of Congress. He did so, he says, in large part by targeting Latino men.

Nearly a week after the November 5 U.S. election, Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) was named the Arizona U.S. Senate election winner. The Associated Press officially called the race for Gallego late Monday night in Arizona.

Republicans flipped Democratic-controlled Senate seats in West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Montana. In the latter three cases, defeated Sens. Sherrod Brown, Bob Casey and Jon Tester also ran ahead of Harris but couldn’t overcome their states’ shifts toward the GOP.
