Judicial commission visits Shahi Jama Masjid and violence-hit areas over court-ordered survey amid tight security.

Under tight security, a three-member judicial inquiry commission headed by a retired high court judge visited Sambhal and inspected the area where violence occurred over the survey of the Mughal-era Shahi Jama Masjid.

The judicial commission appointed to probe the violence that erupted in Sambhal on November 24 visited the town on Sunday and began their probe. The district administration heightened security in the violence-hit area in view of the commission’s visit.

Tensions escalated in Sambhal as a survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid resumed, leading to clashes between the police and protesters following claims that the mosque was originally a Hindu temple.
