How did places around Rockford, Grand Rapids, and Allegan get 6 to 15 inches of fresh powder overnight? During the uptick in lake-effect snow, winds converged to focus the snow into a couple of very heavy bands. Winds were from the southwest in South Haven and from the northwest in Ludington. 1 to 2 inch per hour rates were measured where this radar animation shows yellow colors.
