We would like to thank residents and visitors of B.C. for their diligence in reporting signs of wildfire so far this season. The BC Wildfire Service relies on the information shared through initial fire reports in order to respond quickly and effectively to wildfires. Due to hot, dry conditions and thunderstorms in the forecast, an increase in lightning-caused wildfires is expected this weekend. Please continue to report signs of wildfire to the Provincial Wildfire Reporting Centre (PWRC) by cal

In this video, BC Wildfire Service Incident Commander, Scott Rennick, explains the current situation on the Battleship Mountain wildfire (G72150). Intense and aggressive fire behaviour has been observed over the past two days, significantly challenging suppression efforts. An Ignition Specialist conducted afternoon ignition operations yesterday and today to try and secure the south flank, however the aggressive fire activity challenged our control lines around Carbon Lake and along the Johnson F

The 2023 wildfire season has been long and challenging. Between April 1 and October 31, 2,245 wildfires burned more than 2.84 million hectares of forest and land resulting in the most destructive wildfire season in British Columbia’s recorded history. “We started really early, snow melted three to four weeks early, we were experiencing very aggressive fire behaviour in early May and that has persisted right into the month of October,” Neal McLoughlin, Superintendent, BCWS Predictive Services. The BC Wildfire Service is continuing to respond to the Cummings Creek wildfire. Over the past several days, crews have made great progress on the response efforts on this fire. Conditions have been favourable for crews to make strong progress on building access routes and containment lines that allow them to conduct direct attack suppression in some areas of the north and east flanks. The Cummings Creek wildfire is still classified as Out of Control and despite the progress being made by crews,

We are continuing to respond to the Placer Creek wildfire (K60922). Conditions today have been warmer and drier than recent days, and as a result the fire has become more active on the fire’s southern flank, at the top of the Placer drainage. Smoke from the increased fire activity is visible to those near the area and travelling along Highway 3. Fire behaviour is rank 3, meaning a moderately vigorous surface fire with occasional candling. This week is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. Responding to wildfires and other emergencies in B.C. would not be possible without the work of our dispatchers and call takers. Dispatchers work at our fire centres and the Provincial Airtanker Centre and are a critical communication link to responders in the field. Whether coordinating the movement of crews, planes, helicopters and other resources, or supporting the response to safety incidents or other emergencies in the field. Knowi
