Last week, dozens of blue whales descended on the Monterey Bay to feast on krill hiding along submarine canyon walls. This video shows a handful of blue whales catching their breath before another dive down to the food court—there's even a rare blue whale fluke at 56s! 🌊🐋❤️ | Monterey Bay Aquarium

The humpback whales seen in Monterey Bay are part of a population that migrates seasonally, mainly between the California coast and Mexico. During the winter, they travel to warm waters off places like Guerrero, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo and sometimes Nicaragua and Costa Rica, to breed and give birth. In the spring, they head north to Monterey Bay, where cold nutrient-rich waters create an ideal feeding ground full of anchovies and sardines. They spend March-December in the plentiful waters of Monte

Another incredible day out on Monterey Bay! We kicked things off with beautiful southbound gray whales actively moving along their migration route and giving us amazing looks throughout the morning. The second half of the trip delivered nonstop action with a massive super pod of northern right whale dolphins and pacific white sided dolphins, capped off by unforgettable encounters with everyone’s favorite, humpback whales. The weather has been absolutely stunning lately, and these favorable condi

KILLER WHALES! Another day with the CA51A’s and CA50B, Jimmy! Our boats were lucky enough to spend almost the entire day with these killer whales. Monterey Bay has been absolutely amazing, and this is a great time of year to see everything it has to offer! The weather is forecasted to be great the next week. Come out with us soon to enjoy some sunshine and whales! #gowhales #whalewatching #whales #orca | Monterey Bay Whale Watch

Another incredible day on the bay! We left on our usual 9am trip this morning and almost immediately received a report of 7 killer whales right outside Monterey harbor! We spent the day with them traveling southwest, eventually out of Monterey bay and toward Big Sur. With the help of @californiakillerwhaleproject we quickly identified them as the CA51As and CA50B Jimmy! We were so thrilled to see our “regulars” again after a while with no sightings. They were AMAZING to watch! The pod swam incre

Nothing beats friendly whales! On 7/3/25 we had a magical experience with humpback whales mugging one of our boats. As we stayed in neutral, the whales swam around the boat several times, spyhopped, and looked right at our passengers! What an incredible experience for everyone on board. We had killer whales on our trips Sunday! Featured in this video is CA286, a very rare male orca that has been sighted only 3 times before and this was the first sighting by our scientific team! (This male has only been encountered 3 times since 2017) Our 230PM trip also saw the CA39As, a common matriline for Monterey Bay. CA286 breached multiple times during a bird trip that was 24 miles offshore. What an exciting time to come whale watching in Monterey! Video by Captain Evan / MBWW | Monterey

This winter has been incredible so far! Lots of Gray Whales swimming by daily but we also have been treated with some incredible days with Dolphins and Humpback Whales. Check out these Pacific White Sided Dolphins along side of Northern Right Whale Dolphins working a bait ball then at the end they are joined by a hungry Humpback Whale!! Blue skies, calm seas, and TONS of whales! 💙 We’ve had some incredible whale watching recently. From killer whales to northern right whale dolphins, the biodiversity has been off the charts! Today was nothing short of amazing with some great looks at humpback whales, pelagic birds, and a very brief encounter with the speedy Dall’s porpoise. Even though some of the frequently encountered Monterey humpbacks are already migrating to Mexico, we still have so many whales right here in the bay! Now i

What an incredible experience on our All Day Trip today! We saw breaching whales about 2 miles away from us and headed over. When we arrived, two whales were pec slapping, while another whale came in from the west. All of a sudden, they became very friendly! Captain Nancy Black put the boat in neutral and we floated for over an hour, where up to five whales were circling and swimming underneath our boat! Luckily the weather was absolutely beautiful and the water was clear. Our videographer Evan

Soooo many amazing moments with the wildlife in 2023, we of course had to share some of our personal favorite moments, but with all the incredible stuff we saw this year we couldn’t fit it all in one reel, so this will be split into 2 parts. So first enjoy the first half of our 2023 highlights 1. Southern Resident Killer Whales make a rare appearance in Monterey 2. 25 Biggs Killer Whales attempt to hunt 2 adult Gray Whales 3. Fin Whales surface feeding on Krill 4. Bairds Beaked Whales 5. T65Bs K

We have had some amazing dolphin encounters lately! Enjoy this underwater video clip from one of our recent surveys of Pacific White-sided Dolphins! Dolphin sounds were recorded using our hydrophone during the encounter! Luckily, with appropriate permissions and social distancing, we are able to continue with our research surveys with a very limited group of volunteers through our nonprofit group California Killer Whale Project and Monterey Bay Whale Watch. This allows us to continue helping the

Both of our trips yesterday offered the opportunity of a lifetime! We were able to witness (to quote one of our captains) “the best show ever.” A total of 11 killer whales visited Monterey, just one day after CA49C Venus, and the 122Ds. Today was all about the 202s, also known as the Smileys, named after CA202 Smiley, who has a slight smile mark in her saddle, and of course yesterdays stars the 49Cs, and 122Ds were still around. The pod we encountered included many young orcas, ranging from thre

Our passengers and crew got to experience a very cool encounter today with a Gray whale! Gray whales can be very friendly with people and boats, especially in the waters of Mexico. It doesn't happen as often here with a curious and friendly Gray whale, so this was an amazing experience captured by our photographer @randy_straka_photography 📸 #goodtimes #whalesinthewild #whalewatching #whales #montereybay #sealife #marinemammals #oceanadventures #wildlifeencounters #whalelovers #oceanlife #grayw
