It was the second major collision between the title rivals that season, following their high-speed crash at Silverstone. Hamilton had just rejoined the race after a pit stop and was emerging from the pits. Verstappen, coming off a slow pit stop of his own, was alongside Hamilton as they approached the Rettifilio chicane (
