I bet you’ve never heard of Cat Cry Syndrome (Cri du Chat or Monosomy 5p)- most people haven’t. In the US, only 50 babies are born each year with Monosomy 5p. It is a random genetic mutation that is not inherited and cannot be caused or avoided by parents. It results when either a sperm or egg is missing a piece of the p-arm of the 5th chromosome.
