Cajun music was born from the French-speaking Acadians who were expelled from Nova Scotia in the mid-1700s and resettled in southern Louisiana. They carried with them old French folk songs and ballads that eventually blended with Native American, African, German, Irish, and Anglo-American influences. By the 19th century, the diatonic accordion joined the fiddle as the heart of Cajun bands, alongside the rhythmic triangle. The first Cajun song ever recorded was “Allons à Lafayette” by Joe Falcon
