Here’s one way I preserve furs for tanning. These days, raccoons and other furs are typically handled and stretched differently, but for large hides like this that I intend to tan myself, I like to stretch them in a frame. I can reuse frames like this many times, and they help the fur dry very quickly by increasing air exposure. Once dry, I’m using this large fur to make a rawhide arrow quiver.
